In 2004 the Harris-Lake Park School Board gained Mike Bosma, and he has been serving on the board ever since then. Mike says throughout his time serving on the board, their biggest accomplishment was being able to build the addition to the school.

Mike joined the school board because he had four kids attending H-LP, and he says he wanted to do something for them and help in the school district. As of right now, his family includes his wife Karen, who works at the elementary school as the school secretary. His son Matthew lives in Sioux Falls and works for a construction company. Jacob and his wife April live in Spirit Lake, and he owns his own welding company and his wife is an attorney. Lucas lives in Colorado and works with troubled youth, and his youngest son Sam lives in Spirit Lake and works for a construction company.

Over the years Mike has been involved in many different activities. He was the announcer for the Wolves’ football games and has been a referee for many different sports also over the years. He farms with his dad near Harris on a family farm and also helps drive trucks.

Mike’s favorite memory about being a part of the board is having Mrs. Winters and all the student council members bringing ice cream cake to the board for Board Appreciation Day. His favorite part about being on the school board is being able to interact with all of the other board members.

Mike’s last meeting will be held in September, and the person running for his spot on the board is Chad Hibma. He says he will miss interacting with all of the members of the board and the administration, but he is ready to take a step down and let someone else take his spot.

Mike says if anyone is interested in running, it is a very rewarding experience and you can learn a lot from everything that takes place while on the board. Mike leaves us with one final statement saying, “I’d like to thank all the staff and administration I’ve worked with over the years; they made it a very enjoyable time.”
